Just switch from Telecom to Slingshot naked DSL, over one month later - still no connection. Not much help from CSR staff except for \"tommorrow or the day after it will be connected\" every time I call for information. Infuriating. |

Recently I found out SlingShot has change my broadband plan to "The next big thing" WITHOUT my permission, causing my home line rental transfered to them from telecom. Once I found out, I ask them to change it back, but they said they can't transfer the phone line back to telecom, even though they can steal the connection from telecom! I then call telecom I told telecom the situation, and ask them to transfer my home line back. But they also say they can't, because the phone line is not under my name and I don't have the right to make any change, and I will need to pay for the reconnection fee!! How come telecom can so easily gave my home line rental to someone else without permission, and yet make it so hard for me to change it back?? |

ok, for all of yous out there that are considering switching to slingshot just like I've been thinking, my recommendation is don't. I just got off the phone with them to ask them 1 question. Is their 'free off peak' data shared bandwidth? The answer- " yes it is, and all data at slingshot is shared bandwidth as well-including the peak hours". That is just ridiculous and theres no way I am switching to that. Ashley, its great that you are happy with 0.8mbps, but I don't know if you have used other isps before, because you should be getting 2-3mbps at least 50% of the time. With slingshot this will never be possible because of shared bandwidth, unless they can stop torrents or add new bandwidth every week or day. The customer service was acceptable when I called, they were trying to help, and the waiting was expeced especially after being told that all customers shared same bandwidth, you would expect that they get a hell lot of calls complaining about the turtle paced internet speeds. But with most isps now theres always a bit of a wait before getting to talk to someone, so thats not a big quality I look for, because in reality I don't care how long it takes to get through because when I sign up, I do not expect to need to ring them as long as the connections and speed is good. At the end of the day if you are deciding to switch to a new isp, then look around and ring them up to ask the hard questions. Always find out if their plans are on a shared bandwidth, and ask them to do a speedtest while you are talking to them, on speedtest.net to somewhere like LA or Taiwan, not to a NZ town. If they get crappy test results then chances are you will get worse. There is my little piece of rant for someone thats looking for a new isp, 'sigh' I miss the days when only half the country had broadband and speeds were at 3-4 mbps. |

well i feel sorry for all you losers out there who moan and moan bout your connection speeds, most of you dont have the intelligence to troubleshoot the probs logically, btw i am stoked with my speeds, up to 0.8 mbps 90% time, and all for 60- 70$ a month, how do i do it?....i chose the right plan, buy a little extra data when needed....all you need is a brain...go get one..you lot..... |

We switched to Naked DSL 11th Feb and been without broadband since. Hoping I can persuade SS to honour CGA so I can sign up for Telstra cable. |

the plan im am using is slingshot broadband faster, and im dl 2 files at the moment their speed is 6.6kbs each. this is BS |

im currently with slingshot, my downloads speeds vary from 3kbs - 300kbs but most of the time lately its been around 20-50kbs . i am not satisfy with their service of late. i would like to leave slingshot but will be hit with a early cancel fee of $150, my question is, should i have to pay the cancel fee when they (slingshot) are not providing me with the service im paying and are contacted to? |

have been with slingshot for the past six months up until about two or three weeks ago ive had a consistant connection of about 2 to 2.5 megabytes national and international traffic. then all of a sudden my speed dropped to about 1.2 m/bs .after alot of calls to help desk i was told that that test's were done and my line was only capable of getting speeds of up to 1.5 m/bs, when i explained to the operator that for the past 5 and half months ive had consistant 2 to 2.5 m/b connections he changed his tone, ive tried countless test ping, tracert, speed test, isolation test's but not one person can tell me y this has happend!! i thought maybe i have a virus, spyware yadda yadda yadda...but not even after a clean install of windows has anything changed tried. every phone jack in house ,different ethernet cords about 3 different modems which all work fine, different cords everything..they suck ,they cant give me a reason y this has happend im really dissapointed because other then this ive really had no problems with the service. no disconnections, average speeds from slingshot 250 - 280 kbps from diff locations. best speed ive gotten from them is 580 - 600kbps |

On the first 3 month from last Nov I with Slingshot, my modem lost connection nearly once a week, most of the cases I can't reset it back to normal, then a long waiting support calls followed, I was so angry with this. After time and time isolated testing that proved my home line is fine, they start told me that my modem need to replaced in my cost, but it's new from slingshot! What an annoy service. Then I tried to pickup an old until today, so I think modem is the most blamable for slingshot's bad service. It get customer mad and keep support full angry. I think it should be improved. |

stevenmirinoa, you seem to understand very little about how BB in new zealand works. Slingshot do not create lines to your house. This is entirely controled by telecom. All slingshot will be doing ( and the same with any other ISP that works off the TCNZ network) is contacting Telecom and asking if BB is avalible in the area, The response will be either yes or no, or mabey even yes with fesibility tests required. These tests are in place to ensure that if your BB connection is followed through you meet the minimum speeds for a connection. Plans change with all isps, and all isps do not and CAN NOT provision plans that TCNZ remove from their system, for example if telecom decided (as they have done just recently) to remove the 2MB plan from their system ISP's no longer have the ability to provision this as all provisioning requests must go through telecom as again they all operate of TCNZ lines. As for the Dial up Accelerator program, no doubt its just a compression program used NOT to speed up your dial up but to speed up the time it takes to load pages and text by compressing images. Your Dial up speed will always have the maximum of 56k this is merely a compression utility. With your frequent disconnection issue did you ever even bother to trouble shoot it correctly? turning on and off your modem WILL reconnect you but if the issue lies with the hardware itself then ofcourse the problem is going to persist. The most frequent cause(no pun intended) of frequent disconnections is users having it set up incorrectly. IF after you have isolted the modem you still receive the frequent dissconnections the next LOGICAL step would be to have a tech come to the site and investigate all the physical wiring in the house right the way up to your local exchange to see if thats where the issue lies. If you connected in the first place it means the connection is there and IS working but somthing is interfearing with it, or do you think slingshot purposly went out of the way to sabotage your connection? |

Changed to Slingshot broadband $29.95 have my tolls with them, they started out real fast, great stuff, but its been getting slower and slower, gluey and grinding to snail pace, now have to wait a year to change to something more reliable hopefully |

Where's the Naked DSL plan? |

The other comments here about Slingshot are so true, consistently needing the modem turned off then on, reboot your computer etc, insinuate that my phone lines were the problem, wait an average of 20-30 minutes for an operator, we have just moved to a rural location and what a nightmare, talked to 6 helpdesk people in one week, the first said "can't get it in your location", and that was it, the second said "the error they got wasn't about unavailibility they needed to talk to me about "something" but this person wasnt too sure what about, I said I'll try their "Accelerator" program for dialup but I have to wait three days (Slingshot claimed that thier accelerator is 4x dialup but it is just a joke)...dialup is dialup, no more no less, anyway I'm told I'd receive a tel call that day re; broadband...yeah right no call came through, with the third person I was told that the plans had changed and that the plan I had, was no longer availible so I now had new choices (and I did mention that if I didnt move I know I still would have had my previous plan), I told the fourth person, if the local school right next door to us has broadband then "what's the problem?" so I'm asked do I want to put another request in for Broadband?, yes, so I opt for the second plan, still unsure of Slingshot's ability to be consistant I follow up the next day, this next call took a total of 50 minutes, the fifth person comfirmed what I started to figure out by reading between the lines with previous helpdesk operators and after finding out that my local calls where going to be put through Slingshot which I sure as hell did not ask for I was put through to "customer service" to talk about this matter, this operator couldnt help but show her inability to do her job by the ability she did have in showing me how she wasnt really interested. All in all Slingshot "SUX", their helpdesk people need to realise that there are customers who are clued up on computers as well as them, 18 months with Slingshot have been most inconsistant...So I will be leaving these clownshoes as soon as I can find an ISP that has it's act together...yeah right |

Brennan: yes they charge $79 for move fee, and do you know wut other isps charge for moving Broadband? go find out and stop moaning. |
| Brennan 26 |
It's crap!!! They even charge $79.95 to move connections. |
| Grant 28 |
Slingshit have increased there charges by $5 e.g $24.95 now $29.95 + $10.00 (not having tolls with them) for a 256kb/s downstream and 10GB cap... but they have given you 5GB more to use. That's no good to me I only use 3-4GB of the 10GB I have now. |
| John 23 |
Slingshots starter plan is a little bit cheaper but you will have to change your phone and toll. The wrost part is the 12 month contract as well. They are not very flexable and the Phone help Line take for ever to get anything out of them and the waiting time is far too long! |
| bma 5 |
Just upgraded to there extreme plan, full speed is about 1.5 Mb/s, not great, where i work is on xtra fullspeed and getting triple the speed. Read an article saying NZ broadband is in the dark ages, i agree with this sort of BS. |

Their customer service is appalling. Broadband slow and have to keep reconnecting. I can't call internationally and after 3 days trying to get the U.S.A. was told they would call for me and tell the person what I wanted to say. |

As of 15/05/07, Slingshot has been affected by an unknown problem with web browsing speeds over their broadband connections. Apparently "the network team are aware and investigating" is the only response at the moment from the helpdesk... I'm looking elsewhere! |
This is your opportunity to share your experiences of this ISP with other users — is it really as fast as it claims to be? Is their customer service any good? Do they have regular outages, or is their service reliable?
Please keep your comment short and on-topic.
